The Kern River
Valley

WHY LIVE IN THE KERN VALLEY?

Below is a compilation of just some of the tangible and intangibles that make this pristine mountain valley such a great place to live and play.

By day, you’ll be treated more often than not to a BRILLIANT BLUE SKY! At night, you can enjoy the DAZZLING ARRAY OF STARS, CONSTELLATIONS AND PLANETS. Since, high intensity, artificial lighting is at such a minimum in the Valley, a star studded sky unfolds before your eyes.

Do you treasure PEACE AND QUIET?? You'll find plenty of this commodity here. The ambient noise level is extremely low. When the sun goes down, it gets pretty quiet here. The pace of living is slow. Drifting off to the sound of the serenading crickets will almost guarantee you a TRANQUIL NIGHT’S SLEEP!

Few places in arid Southern California can boast having so much WATER. The Valley’s focal point, Lake Isabella, is the LARGEST RESERVOIR LAKE in the Southland. It is fed by the mighty KERN RIVER having its origins at Mt. Whitney. You’ll find HOT SPRINGS and COLD SPRINGS and STREAMS and CREEKS that flow into the lake and river from the high country surrounding the Valley.

The priceless quality of life in the Kern River Valley is yours to enjoy at HOUSING PRICES WITHIN REACH! There's no other resort in California where you can buy property at such reasonable prices. Check out our listings and you'll see what we mean. In addition, you’ll find a COMFORTABLE COST OF LIVING. You can get along on far less than in a metropolitan area.

Another quality factor is the very low crime rate. The Kern River Valley is a very SAFE, SECURE, PLACE to live.  There are no gangs or gang related activity. Per capita, this mountain valley has one of the lowest incidences of major crime in the entire state of California.

The GROWTH RATE IS VERY LOW compared to the rest of the state of California. While most of the state is experiencing fast growth and urban sprawl, this little mountain valley is growing, by last count, by a very modest 1% to 2% a year. With only 20,000 residents and lots and lots of empty space, it will take generations to fill, if it happens at all. There are ONLY TWO TRAFFIC LIGHTS in the entire Valley.

The Kern River Valley has been recognized as the #1 OUTDOOR RECREATION AREA IN THE UNITED STATES.  Bicycling, camping, catch-and-release fishing, cross country skiing, downhill skiing, golfing, horseback riding, kayaking, lake fishing, mountain biking, rock climbing, river and stream fishing, sailing, snow boarding, snow shoeing, spelunking, water skiing, white water rafting, wild trout fishing and wind surfing are among the myriad of outdoor recreational opportunities found here, many of them known as world class.

If you are a dog person, you’ll find the Valley to be a CANINE PARADISE! With so much wide open space, your dog can run for miles, swim in the lake and river, take in the myriad odors of wild nature, all of which helps your very “best friend” obtain optimum balance.

We are surrounded by the VISUAL BEAUTY of the pristine wilderness of the Sequoia National Forest. This is a gorgeous environment in which to live and play. Everywhere you look, you are witness to the rugged natural beauty of the Southern Sierra Mountains, Lake Isabella and the Wild & Scenic Kern River.

Living in this small, rural valley provides one with a real SENSE OF COMMUNITY. You really get to know people on a personal level. A person really feels that they are a part or what's going on. A very real sense of belonging grows on you. The more time you spend here, the more everyone feels like "family".

One factor that just about every visitor and new arrival comments on is just how NICE AND FRIENDLY the local people are. You will notice this every where you go in the Valley. Making friends and meeting new people is very easy.

You can see that what we’re hinting at is that the great air quality, the peace and quiet, the vast number of recreational opportunities, the low crime rate, the sense of community, the lack of traffic, the friendly people and the natural beauty of the area translates into a HEALTHY, LOW STRESS, LIFESTYLE – a place where you can really SLOW DOWN and SMELL THE ROSES - a place where you can GET BACK TO LIFE’S SIMPLER PLEASURES!

Last but not least.  No matter where you live in the valley you will have BREATHTAKING VIEWS OF THE SURROUNDING BEAUTY.  They say a picture is worth a thousand words - Click here to see a few thousand words or so  - any one of which could be your view from your home in the Valley!
